Mumbai: After extending her support to the CJP’s protest at Jantar Mantar, Sonakshi Sinha has now voiced her solidarity with the ongoing Jharkhand student protest, drawing attention to the students’ demand for justice.
The actor took to her Instagram Stories to share a reel highlighting the ongoing agitation over alleged irregularities in government recruitment examinations and the thousands of students who have been protesting for days.
Alongside the reel, Sonakshi wrote, “It’s so disheartening to see students of our country go through this… When will it stop???”
Earlier, actor Rupali Ganguly had also expressed her support for the protest. Taking to X, she urged the government to listen to the students’ concerns and take prompt action to address their demands.
“The students of Jharkhand are standing firm in the pouring rain, peacefully demanding justice. Their determination deserves respect, not silence. The government must listen, ensure accountability, and address their concerns,” Rupali wrote.
She further added, “They are the future of the state and the nation. May justice prevail soon, and may they return home with hope. #JharkhandStudents #JusticeForStudents.”
The student-led protest in Ranchi, which comes shortly after the widespread CJP demonstration, began as a small gathering at Vapu Batika Ground.
It has since evolved into a large-scale movement, drawing support from students across Jharkhand.
The agitation gained momentum on July 29, when hundreds of students assembled at Ranchi’s Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium, just days after the Jantar Mantar protest concluded.
Carrying the Tricolour and raising slogans, the protesters sought accountability from the Hemant Soren-led government over alleged irregularities in the 14th JPSC examination.
As the movement grew, it drew comparisons with the Jantar Mantar protest, which culminated in the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
The protest has also found a prominent face in student leader Devendra Nath Mahto.
Echoing activist Sonam Wangchuk’s 26-day indefinite hunger strike during the Jantar Mantar movement, Mahto has launched an indefinite fast, demanding the cancellation of the 14th JPSC examination.
