New Delhi: Concern is mounting over the deteriorating health of activist and education reformer Sonam Wangchuk as his indefinite hunger strike entered its 18th day on Wednesday, with the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) calling for a
nationwide mass hunger strike in solidarity with him.
According to the CJP, Wangchuk has lost around 8.5 kg, is suffering from muscle wastage and severe weakness, but has refused to end his fast despite repeated appeals from opposition leaders, public figures and supporters, reported HT. The party said his condition has become increasingly critical as he continues his protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged examination paper leak controversy.
The protest has drawn support from several opposition leaders and public personalities, many of whom have appealed to Wangchuk to end his fast while assuring him of their support for the cause. However, Wangchuk has maintained that he will continue the hunger strike until there is meaningful action on the demands raised by the protesters.
