New Delhi: A day after a video of a monkey hitching a ride in a Metro railway compartment went viral, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said it will work out a standard operating procedure (SOP) to tackle such issues in future.
“The DMRC in consultation with the forest department plans to work out a standard operating procedure to deal with such unexpected situations arising out of their entry into metro premises for passengers’ safety,” a DMRC statement said.
The monkey was spotted around 4.45 pm in a metro train travelling from Yamuna Bank to Indraprashta, ANI had tweeted on Sunday. No passenger was harmed by the primate, which disappeared from the metro premises after deboarding the train.
“The monkey had sneaked into the train at the Akshardham Metro Station and remained in the system for 3-4 minutes. DMRC staff acted swiftly after getting information on the issue and the train was evacuated at the next station,” DMRC said.
Metro officials appealed to passengers and advised them to refrain from encouraging, feeding (animals) or indulging in any activity which could endanger them in such a situation.
They also urged the public to inform train operators or metro authorities if they noticed any such incident so that remedial action could be taken without delay.
