Soumya Ranjan Suicide In Bhubaneswar: Girlfriend’s Family Refutes ‘Betrayal’ Allegation By His Family

Bhubaneswar: The alleged suicide case of Soumya Ranjan Panigrahi at his residence in the city over ‘betrayal’ by his girlfriend has taken a new turn with the latter’s family refuting the allegation and pointing finger at the former.

According to sources, a suicide note, found from Soumya’s room after his death on Sunday last, had mentioned that he resorted to extreme step after being betrayed by his girlfriend.

The girl’s family on Thursday told the media that differences in the relationship between Soumya and their daughter had cropped up for some time as he suspected his girlfriend over petty matters. They also used to quarrel and blame each other over minor issues, the family added.

Had Soumya’s family tried to patch up their differences, the tragic incident would not have taken place, the girl’s family said adding that they should refrain from levelling such allegation against their daughter.

Soumya was found hanging at his residence in Nandan Vihar of the city. A handwritten note, found from his room, accused his girlfriend of having relationship with another person for the past several months.

Later, Soumya’s sister had told the media that her brother killed himself as he felt frustrated by his girlfriend’s affair with another man. The girl betrayed her brother in in order to have relationship with a rich man, she alleged.

Soumya, who was pursuing a modelling career in Mumbai, had returned to Bhubaneswar after lockdown due to COVID pandemic and started a business. He met his girlfriend at a gym in the city and had decided to marry her.

As Soumya remained unhappy after coming to know about his girlfriend’s affair with another youth, his father had talked to him and tried to counsel him, family sources said.
