Bhubaneswar: As part of its drive against use of high-decibel horns and modified silencer pipes in two-wheelers, the Commissionerate Police conducted raids on bike repair garages and shops in the city on Tuesday.
A special team of police, formed for the purpose, carried out raids on Puri-Cuttack road. The garages, which are carrying out the change of in-built silencer pipes with those producing high-decibel sound, were raided. Besides, the shops selling the spare parts of motorcycles also came under the raid of the special team.
According to police sources, the special team seized as many as 27 silencers from the garages and shops during the raid. The raids will continue to stop the illegal operation under the drive in other places of the city, they added.
Bhubaneswar DCP Umashankar Dash on Monday said a special drive has been launched with the help of team traffic against the motorcyclists with modified silencers creating rough noise. He had also requested general public to provide information on such vehicles on Whatsapp Number 8093028107 for further action.
He had said the step was taken following complaints that some people were creating sound pollution in residential areas, particularly during the rallies for elections to civic bodies in the twin cities.
