Bhubaneswar: Even as southwest monsoon continues to progress, Odisha has received 38% deficit rainfall compared to the normal rain during the season so far.
According to regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, Odisha received 14.1 mm rainfall by June 14 which was 80% deficit of the normal rainfall.
As the monsoon made further progress, the state received 78.7 mm rainfall till June 21, thus making up 42% of the deficit in 7 days. But it has left 38% deficit to be covered in coming days, said the IMD.
The Met office on Wednesday forecast that Odisha is likely to experience heavy and widespread rainfall, ranging from 7 cm to 11 cm, in the next 24 hours under the influence of a cyclonic circulation, which lies over east Jharkhand and adjoining north Odisha.
In its evening bulletin in the day, the IMD said several districts of the state are likely to receive heavy rainfall for next 5 days.
