The southwest monsoon has made an early arrival in the state this time as per the forecast made by the IMD earlier. Its arrival has triggered rain in several areas of the state, including Malkangiri and adjoining districts.
Monsoon normally makes an onset over southern parts of Odisha around June 12 and this time it has hit the state around four days in advance.
The northern limit of monsoon now passes through Baramati, Nizamabad, Sukma, Malkangiri, Vizianagaram, Director of the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar Manorama Mohanty said.
The weather agency had earlier stated that conditions were favourable for the early arrival of southwest monsoon in the state.
Sources said conditions are favourable for further advancement of the monsoon into other parts of the state in the next few days after its arrival in Malkangiri.
