Bhubaneswar: The southwest monsoon has withdrawn from many parts of Odisha, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday.
The southwest monsoon has withdrawn from Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Khurda, Jajpur, Nayagarh, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Sonepur, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh and many parts of Balangir, Kandhamal and Ganjam, the weather agency said.
Monsoon has also withdrawn from some parts of Nuapada and Kalahandi districts, it said in a press release.
Conditions are likely to become favourable for further withdrawal of southwest monsoon from remaining parts of Odisha during the next two days, it added.
The usual withdrawal period of monsoon from the state is October 10 to 15. The monsoon remained subdued over the state between October 3 and 9 and the rainfall deficit stood at 70 per cent during the period.
As monsoon’s withdrawal process has started, there is no heavy rainfall warning for next five days in the state. However, isolated places may receive light to moderate rainfall/thundershower as moisture-laden winds from Bay of Bengal are blowing towards the state, said a weather scientist.
In its extended range outlook for two weeks till October 24, the weather agency said there will be no significant rainfall activity in the state in next fortnight. Light to moderate rain/thundershower may occur at isolated places between October 13 and 17 but overall, the rainfall activity is expected to remain below normal in Odisha.
Similar weather condition is likely to prevail between October 18 and 24 and overall rainfall activity is likely to be near normal in the state.
