Lucknow: The Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) will ally for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, and contest on 38 seats each, while two seats have been left for the Congress and as many for other allies.
Addressing a press conference in Lucknow along with Akhilesh Yadav, Mayawati said the SP-BSP alliance “will give sleepless nights to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah”.
Stating that this poll pact is important for the country, the BSP supremo said she is willing to forget the 1995 Lucknow Guesthouse incident when SP goons had attacked her.
Mayawati further said that the SP lost the state assembly elections due to alliance with Congress in2017.
She attacked the grand old party for corruption and tried to draw parallel between it and the BJP, by highlighting the Emergency imposed by the Congress in the 70s and comparing it with alleged ‘undeclared emergency’ by the BJP now.
Terming their alliance as a political revolution, Akhilesh Yadav said that the merger was necessary to bring down the soaring arrogance of the BJP.
The two former Uttar Pradesh chief ministers and once fierce rivals, however, will not contest in Amethi and Rae Bareli – the seats currently held by Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi respectively.
