Space Under Bhomikhal Flyover In Bhubaneswar Designated As Parking Lot

Bhubaneswar: To streamline traffic movement on the busy Cuttack-Puri state highway, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has notified the area under the Bomikhal road overbridge (ROB) as a parking lot.

Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das told the media that the parking lot under Bomikhal flyover is among the newly-approved one. “On-street parking was not feasible here since the highway is not wide enough compared to other arterial roads of the city. This step was taken to regulate the parking services on the stretch,” she added.

Haphazard parking under the bridge earlier hampered traffic movement on this busy stretch, housing a number of commercial outlets, including garages, car and bike showrooms, hotels and bars, banks and eateries. Owners of commercial outlets or their customers can now pay and park their vehicles here.

Sources said similar parking lots are likely to be created under other road overbridges in the city in a phased manner.

Earlier, the BMC had identified places for 7 more parking lots in Bhubaneswar to ease the problems of vehicle owners.
