New Delhi: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) on Wednesday notified that cars with tubeless tyres need not have a spare tyre any more. Instead, they will have to be fitted with a tyre pressure-monitoring system and a tyre puncture repair kit.
The rule is applicable to vehicles of M1 (vehicles with up to 9 seats) and N1 (goods vehicles with up to 2.5 ton gross weight) categories.
Many imported cars like BMWs and Volvos are without a spare tyre. They are fitted with run-flat tyres and equipped with puncture kits.
