Bhubaneswar: Affirming the state government’s commitment to modernisation of the state police, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday said that a roadmap has been prepared to make the force one of the best in the country.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the conference of district Collectors and SPs in Bhubaneswar, Majhi said that a massive roadmap has been drawn with plans to form a special battalion for Puri Jagannath Temple and recruitment of 1043 personnel.
While these police personnel will also be engaged for the smooth conduct of Rath Yatra, the state government has also decided to recruit 2098 home guards, he said.
The CM said that state government is taking necessary steps to enable the police officials to discharge their duties properly without facing any problems. All required infrastructure and equipment will be provided to respond during emergency situations, he said.
While 9000 motorcycles will be provided, each police station will have extra four-wheeler so that the officials will be able to respond to emergency situations, Majhi said.
This apart, ten police outposts will be set up in medical colleges and the state government will also set up ten more ODRAF units. There will be one ODRAF unit for each district. At present, there are 20 ODRAF units in the state.
Similarly, three more battalions of Odisha State Striking Force will be set up and this will help Odisha Police, the CM added.
