Puri: A day after taking charge as Odisha’s Director General of Police (DGP), Y B Khurania visited Shree Jagannath Temple at Puri and offered prayers before the sibling deities.
Khurania, a 1990-batch IPS officer, was welcomed by Puri Superintendent of Police and other senior officials at the Singhadwara – Lions’ Gate – of the 12th century shrine.
Sources said the new DGP visited the shrine along with his family members and sought the blessing of the Trinity.
After offering prayers to the sibling deities, Khurania is reported to have discussed security and crowd management arrangements with temple authorities.
Stating that concrete measures will be taken to enhance the security of the temple, he said steps will be taken ensure a safe and smooth experience for devotees visiting the shrine.
The Police chief further stated that steps will be taken for the deployment of a special battalion to strengthen the security of Jagannath Temple and ensure safety of devotees.
“The most important duty for me, as the head of Odisha Police, and my police force is to provide better police service to the people of Odisha,” he said.
