Bhubaneswar: The Department of Medicine of AIIMS, Bhubaneswar has started a special clinic in Geriatric Medicine to provide a comprehensive geriatric care.
Additional Professor, Medicine Dr Rashmi Ranjan Mohanty will be the in-charge of the special clinic which will remain open every Tuesday from 2 pm to 5 pm. The clinic, which has started functioning since March 1, will be helpful for the geriatric population to get a holistic geriatric care.
The geriatric care has assumed a heightened significance in the wake of COVID pandemic. Besides, the geriatric population will comprise around 13.1% of the total population of the country by 2031.
Considering these facts, the special clinic has been set up to address various issues like diabetes, hypertension, obesity, constipation, COPD, different cardiac, renal and mental illness, said Dr Mohanty.
He further said since geriatric care has become a major challenge with increased urbanisation and lifestyle modifications, a special geriatric care clinic will be helpful for the people.
The AIIMS organised a guest lecture by eminent Professor in geriatric medicine Dr AB Dey, founder head, Geriatric Medicine, AIIMS, New Delhi to discuss various aspects of geriatric care.
Dr Anupama Behera and Dr Dhriti Sundar Das of Department of Medicine will also be involved in Geriatric Medicine special clinic.
