Bhubaneswar: A dedicated special crime control unit will be set up under the Commissionerate Police to handle the rising cases of organised crime, economic offences and those related to drug peddling.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday gave the go-ahead to the cell which will be led by a DCP-rank official. The special wing will function with 59 staff including an additional DCP, three ACPs, nine inspectors, 12 SIs, three ASIs and 30 constables.
The proposal for three new police stations, keeping in view the rising needs of a rapidly growing population in the twin cities, also got the CM’s nod.
The three police stations under the jurisdiction of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate will come up at Pahala (under Balianta PS), Info Valley (under Jatni PS) and 42 Mouza/Bentakar (under Cuttack Sadar PS), an official release said.
