Bhubaneswar: With an aim to include all eligible people above the age of 18 in voter list the Election Commission will start Special Summary Revision of electoral roll from November 1.
The month long process for Elector’s Photo Identity Card (EPIC)
will start on November 1 and end on November 30, said Chief Electoral Officer Sushil Kumar Lohani while addressing mediapersons on Saturday.
Eligible voters whose names have not been entered in the voter list or those who want to remove them from the voter list or correct mistakes can do it online through a special app, he added.
For this purpose Voter Helpline App can be downloaded on all mobile phones. One just needs to submit various documents for address, date of birth and latest picture to validate the applications.
Lohani said a voter has to download the App and fill up details using different types of forms as per their need. A person can submit his/her application, for address proof one can upload passport/bank passbook/land record/rent-lease deed/water bill/telephone bill/electricity/ gas connection documents. Similarly for date of birth proof, one can upload birth certificate/passport/PAN card/driving licence/Aadhar Card and recent photograph.
Upon receipt of the application field level officers of the ECI after processing it and getting it approved will include their names in the electoral roll within a stipulated period of time and subsequently also issue EPIC, stated Lohani.
This apart, applicants can also apply through the NVSP portal, he added.
For offline process, officials will be present at the booth on November 9 and 21, the first and third Sundays of this month, where people can go and edit the voter list.
On completion of the process, government officials will visit the home of applicants and provide the card or the card will be sent through speed post, he said and added that special arrangements will be made to revise the voter list in hilly areas.
People can apply for amendments within a month. It will take 20 days to review and the final voter list will be released on January 9. “We have already excluded one lakh people having two voter IDs by auto mechanisms. Another 8,00,000 applications are still pending,” Lohani said.
Prior to this pre-revision activity was undertaken and the draft of the electoral roll prepared till October 31 will be published on November 1.
The schedule has been finalised in accordance with the Election Commission of India decision for special summary revision of photo electoral rolls with reference to January 1, 2022, as the qualifying date.
