Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) will launch a special drive next week to inoculate those in the 18 and above age group with the second dose of vaccine against COVID-19.
According to BMC sources, the special drive will start from June 8-9 at different vaccination centres in Bhubaneswar for those who had received their first dose on May 3,4 and 5.
The civic body had earlier opened slots for the second dose of Covaxin till June 5.
This has come as a relief for beneficiaries of this age group amid reports of vaccines shortage. On Thursday, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Sanjay Singh had also admitted to the shortage but was hopeful of receiving the doses in the next 10 days, before the due date (June 13) of the second jab for those vaccinated on May 3 when the drive began.
According to official sources, Odisha is likely to receive 26,000 doses of Covaxin by June 7 and 2,27,750 doses of Covishield by June 9 for this age group.
