Cuttack: The Odisha government has decided to set up a special ICU for the dengue patients at the SCB Medical College and Hospital here. About 2000 people in the state have so far tested positive for the vector-borne disease.
Emergency Officer, SCB, Dr Bhubanananda Maharana informed that the special eight-bed ICU would be set up near the Central ICU and made operationalised in a couple of days.
Of the 99 blood samples tested on Thursday, 33 were found to be afflicted with disease. Among them, 19 patients are from Cuttack district, five from Jagatsinghpur, three from Jajpur and one each from Dhenkanal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Rayagada and Sambalpur, he said.
Maharana further said that of the 70 patients admitted to the dengue ward on Friday, seven patients have been shifted to the ICU.
“As there is no special ICU for the dengue patients, the seven are undergoing treatment in those of other departments,” he informed.
