Special Screening: PM Modi, Amit Shah Watch ‘The Sabarmati Report’ In Parliament Auditorium

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah are among several BJP leaders to have praised Vikrant Massey-starrer ‘The Sabarmati Report’, which was released in theatres on November 15.

On Monday, a special screening of the Dheeraj Sarna-directed film was held at the Balyogi Auditorium in Parliament’s Library hall.

Besides PM Modi and Shah, a clutch of Union ministers and NDA MPs including Rajnath Singh, Kiren Rijiju, Jitan Ram Manjhi, Ashwini Vaishnaw reached the venue to attend the 4 pm screening.

The film, which also stars Ridhi Dogra and Raashii Khanna in key roles, is based on the tragic train-burning incident which took place in Gujarat’s Godhra railway station on February 27, 2002.

As many as 59 Hindu pilgrims and karsevaks were killed in a fire on the S-6 coach of the Sabarmati Express.

Modi lauded the makers of the film for shedding light on the 2002 incident.

“Well said. It is good that this truth is coming out, and that too in a way common people can see it. A fake narrative can persist only for a limited period. Eventually, the facts will always come out!” the Indian PM posted on X last month and shared the film’s trailer.

Shah met the film’s star cast of the film at his residence. “Met the team of ‘The Sabarmati Report’ and congratulated them for their courage to narrate the truth. The film exposes the lies and the misleading facts to unveil the truth that was suppressed for a long time to meet political interests,” the Home Minister wrote on X.

Religious riots between Hindus and Muslims broke out across Gujarat following the Godhra incident. Modi, who was chief minister of the state at that time, was blamed by the Opposition for failing to control the riots.

A number of BJP-ruled states, including Odisha and Uttar Pradesh, have announced tax-free screening of ‘The Sabarmati Report’.
