Spectacled Cobra Rescued From Bhubaneswar Judicial Complex Before Inauguration By Droupadi Murmu

Bhubaneswar: Hours before a scheduled inauguration by President Droupadi Murmu, a 2-foot-long deadly Spectacled cobra was found and rescued from the premises of the newly constructed Judicial Complex building in Bhubaneswar on Thursday.

As per information, the snake was spotted near the main entrance of the sprawling complex by a  driver who raised an alarm. The snake was found crawling on the mid path of the main road inside the judicial complex in front of its main gate. As the snake got surrounded by people, it could not move and took shelter underneath a barricade plate.

Then Snake Helpline was contacted for help. Subhendu Mallik, General Secretary of Snake Helpline, reached the spot and rescued the snake. The snake was later released out of the city in a suitable natural habitat.

Following the incident, people in the judicial complex expressed apprehension about the possibility of presence of more snakes in the area. A thorough inspection was launched in the entire court complex as a precautionary measure.

“Thankfully the cobra was spotted before the arrival of the President,” said Mallik.

However, such a scene exposed the vulnerability of the newly built majestic to the menace from slithering reptiles. A juvenile cobra means there could be other snakes from its batch of hatchlings and which is not good for a very serious building, he said.

The entire judicial complex premises should be scanned and possible snake entries should be identified and closed, Mallik added.
