Guwahati: The speculation is finally over. Senior BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma will be the next chief minister of Assam, Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar announced after a legislature party meeting in here on Sunday.
While Sarma was elected as the party legislative chief, his name as the next Assam CM was proposed by state BJP president Sarbananda Sonowal and MLA Nandita Garlosa at the meeting.
On Friday, Sonowal and Sarma were called to New Delhi by the BJP central leadership apparently to discuss the leadership issue of the next government in Assam.
Earlier on Saturday evening, Odisha Bytes had reported that Sarma was likely to become the next CM of Assam.
It had also reported that the Union Agriculture Minister, BJP national vice-president Baijayant Panda and party national general secretary Arun Singh will be involved in the selection.
