Dhenkanal: Three labourers were mowed down by a speeding bus on National Highway 53 near Khairamunda village in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Tuesday.
The deceased have been identified as Sagar Pradhan (24), Sumant Parida (55), and Soumya Ranjan Sahu (19) of Naupalakateni village.
According to sources, the accident took place when the trio was en route to Khairamunda village on a motorcycle for for house construction work. Sagar died on the spot. Soumya and Sumanta were rushed to Parjang Community Health Centre but they succumbed to their injuries during treatment.
Meanwhile, tension prevailed in the area following the mishap with locals staging a blockade over compensation for the bereaved families, disrupting vehicular movement between Talcher and Duburi.
On being informed, police reached the spot and restored normalcy. The bus involved in the accident has also been seized.
