Bhubaneswar: A horrifying accident sent shockwaves near Jharpada overbridge area in Bhubaneswar on Sunday evening when a speeding truck rammed into a scooter, trapping the two-wheeler underneath and dragging it for nearly 200 metres.
According to sources, sparks could be seen due to friction from the prolo
nged dragging with the scooter wedged under the moving vehicle. The rider sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Capital Hospital for treatment.
The harrowing spectacle quickly drew a crowd of panicked and outraged onlookers. Witness accounts from the scene suggest the truck driver may have been driving the vehicle under the influence of alcohol, noting that he showed no intention of stopping until spotting a crowd near the bridge. One local resident recalled seeing sparks and fire billowing from beneath the truck, initially unaware that a mangled scooter was causing the blaze.
The incident sparked immediate chaos and tension in the locality. Incensed by the driver’s reckless actions, locals surrounded the truck and vandalised it. Laxmisagar police soon arrived at the scene, brought the situation under control and detained the truck driver. An investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events that led to the accident.
