Angul: Three passengers of a Bhubaneswar-bound bus died while another sustained critical injuries after being hit by a speeding truck at Baragapali in Kishore Nagar area of Odisha’s Angul district late on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Ghanshyam Barik of Brajarajnagar, Anand Pradhan of Sundargarh and Nayan Kumar Nayak of Jharsuguda.
According to sources, the vehicle, en route to Bhubaneswar from Sundargarh, stopped midday after it suffered a punctured tyre and the helper got down to fix it. Some passengers also alighted from the vehicle and were hit by the truck while crossing the road to attend nature’s call. The truck driver speeded away after the accident.
Three among the accident victims were taken to a hospital at Rairakhol, where two succumbed. Another died at a hospital at Kishore Nagar. The injured undergoing treatment at Rairakhol has been identified as Trilochan Nayak of Badamba.
Police have started investigation into the accident.
