Berhampur: A leopard was knocked down by a speeding vehicle near Mujagada village under North Ghumasara forest range in Odisha’s Ganjam district in the early hours of Wednesday.
The mishap reportedly took place around 2 am on Bhajanagar-Phulbani road and some local initially spotted the animal writhing in pain. A home guard first reached the spot and tried to revive the animal. Soon, Forest Department officials and a team of Bhanjanagar police arrived and offered its some first aid. The leopard, aged four to five years, however died while being taken to Bhanjanagar veterinary hospital, sources said.
The Forest department has launched an investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to the death of the leopard and the vehicle involved.
