Spellbinding Odissi Dance By SANKALP Foundation Group At New Delhi Rath Yatra Mahotsav-2023

New Delhi: The Rath Yatra Mahotsav-2023, held at Shri Jagannath Temple in Thyagraj Nagar, New Delhi witnessed breathtaking Odissi dance performances by the disciples of Vidushi Kasturi Pattanaik under the banner of the SANKALP Foundation for Arts and Culture Group.

The evening commenced with the enchanting Mangalacharan or Pushpanjali, a soulful rendition of “Hari Om Namo Narayan” by the renowned Bhajan singer Anup Jalota. This set the tone for the mesmerising journey that the audience eagerly waited for. Anita Raut, Sunita Biswal, Manikarnika, Shubhashree Pradhan, and Ankita Jena gracefully portrayed the Mangalacharan, capturing the essence of devotion and reverence.

Following this auspicious beginning, the dancers took the audience on a captivating exploration of Thei Ghara Nata. Choreographed by the renowned Odissi dancer Vidushi Kasturi Pattanaik, this performance showcased the evolutionary elements of Odissi dance through the enchanting combination of Raga Majkhamaj and Taal Triputta, with intermittent Khemta beats. Apara Maity, Abhirami A, Banashree Dhal, Jaydisha Mohanty, Anushka Ghosh, Priyanka Dash, and Reenika Mohapatra displayed their exceptional skills, delivering a spellbinding presentation that left the audience in awe.

The third performance brought forth the art of Abhinaya, as the dancers aesthetically expressed emotions and narratives through their movements. The chosen piece was the profound “Uma Maheswara Stotram

,” originally written by Adi Shankaracharya as a celestial homage to Lord Shiva. Vidushi Kasturi Pattanaik meticulously choreographed the Abhinaya, complemented by the soul-stirring music composition of Guru Swapneswar Chakraborty. Anita Raut, Sunita Biswal, Manikarnika, Shubhashree Pradhan, and Ankita Jena once again showcased their immense talent in this performance.

Lastly, the evening reached its grand finale with the enthralling Narayani Pallavi. Based on Raag Narayani and Taal Ektali. This performance seamlessly blended the elegance of dance with the enchanting musical composition. The dancers, including Abhirami A, Apara Maity, Banashree Dhal, Priyanka Dash, and Reenika Mohapatra, delivered a breathtaking portrayal of devotion and grace, capturing the hearts of the audience.

The choreographic brilliance showcased the rich heritage of Odissi dance form and left a lasting impression on the audience.
