Bhubaneswar: Spice company Mahashian Di Hatti (MDH) Private Limited has evinced interest to set up a spice and food processing unit in Kandhamal district to promote locally-grown spices.
‘Mahashay’ Dharampal Gulati, owner of the company who is in the city, and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik deliberated on the issue at Lok Seva Bhawan here on Saturday.
In a tweet, the Chief Minister said that he had assured him of ‘unmatched’ facilitation support from the Odisha government for setting up the proposed food processing unit.
On August 7, Kandhamal MP Achyuta Samanta had met Gulati in New Delhi and urged him to set up a spices processing unit to promote production of Kandhamal Haldi (Turmeric), which was accorded Geographical Indication (GI) tag this year for its unique healing properties
The unit will usher in a change in the socio-economic condition of the farmers of the region, the MP had said.
