Bhubaneswar: The ruling BJD has accused the BJP of cheating 4.5 crore people of Odisha on special category status by doing away with it in its 2019 manifesto.
In 2014, the saffron party had promised special category status to Odisha if voted to power but faltered on it. By dropping the issue, which was the number 1 point on the first page in 2014, altogether in its 2019 manifesto, the party has cheated the people of the state, the BJD noted in its complaint lodged at Kharvela Nagar police station.
“This conclusively proves that while for five years they were in power in Centre, they promised but cheated the 4.5 crore people of Odisha and the move to drop it from its 2019 election manifesto shows that the saffron party does not want to deliver on their promise anymore. This is a serious offence and construes cheating the people of Odisha,” it added.
The BJD has requested Odisha police to register an FIR against BJP for having cheated 4.5 crore people of Odisha on the issue.
The BJP is yet to react to this.
