Cuttack: The SCB Medical College and Hospital here is bracing up to admit COVID-19 patients in case of a surge in corona cases in Odisha. The state on Wednesday reported 170 cases of which 23 each were from Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.
As per the government instructions, the SCBMCH authorities have readied the beds and stocked up on other required equipment in case a necessity arises.
Informing about the measures taken Emergency Officer Bhubanananda Moharana said a special ward for COVID-19 has been set up on the 4th floor of the eye care department. While one portion of the 4th floor will be used for treatment of corona patients, the other will be used as isolation ward, he added.
“The hospital’s current Covid-19 bed strength is 75, including 23 ICU beds. We will increase number as and when required,” said Moharana.
At present, the hospital has 25 patients, he said adding that the number of cases had been rising in Odisha.
Last year the number of Covid-19 beds had been increased to 500, said Moharana and requested people to follow COVID-19 guidelines and prevent a resurgence.

Government hospitals
Current availability: 2,845
Current occupancy: 39
ICU+HDU beds: Total 174 of which 10 are occupied
Similarly of the 85 ventilators aavaiable, 2 are in use.
Facilities in private hospitals:
Of the total 95 general beds available, 5 are occupied.
Similarly, of the 115 ICU+HDU beds available at present 48 are occupied and of the 125 ventilators 2 are in use. The figures are as on March 21.
