Spoken English To Be Introduced From Class I In Odisha Schools

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has decided to introduce Spoken English programme from Class I in all state-run schools.

Informing the media on Tuesday, School and Mass Education (S&ME) Minister Samir Dash said English education will be taken up on priority basis in 100 Schools of Excellency in different districts.

The decision was taken keeping in view the keenness among parents and guardians for English education. English curriculum in government-run schools was earlier being introduced from Class III.

“Guardians are keen that their wards learn English from the elementary level. Introduction of spoken English from Class I will help students learn the language better,” the Minister said after attending a review meeting at Nimapara in Puri district.

He further said that efforts are being made to make the attendance system of students as well as teachers online.

Headmasters of 294 schools, cluster resource centre coordinators, block education officers and circle officers attended the review meeting, which discussed 19 keys issues ,including Mo Sarkar, matriculation examination, utilisation of government funds and renovation of schools affected by cyclone Fani, sources said.
