Rourkela: Two persons were arrested for allegedly manufacturing and selling adulterated hair oil in Odisha’s Rourkela.
The accused, identified as Zakir Hussain (43) and Sayeed Akhtar (41), are residents of Islam Nagar area in the steel city.
The racket was unearthed after a team of police personnel carried out a raid on the house of Hussain and recovered a huge quantity of adulterated oil worth over Rs 7.5 lakh, sources said.
The accused persons were manufacturing the spurious oil by adding ‘inferior, unwanted and cheap chemical substances’. They used to label the products with the names of different popular brands and sell in the market as genuine ones.
A large number of bottles of different sizes containing the adulterated oil were recovered from the house of Hussain during the raid.
A case has been registered against them under Sections 420, 482, 483, 486, 471 and 34 of the IPC, Sections 103 and 104 of Trademarks Act, and Section 63 of Copyright Act.
Further investigation by the police is in progress. Further details are awaited.
