Cuttack: Police have arrested for a 21-year-old youth for allegedly stabbed a woman to death for opposing his unrequited love for her daughter at Debendra Nagar slum under CRRI police limits in Odisha’s Cuttack city.
The accused, Munna Bhuyan, was out on bail after being arrested on charges of trying to rape the daughter of the deceased, Bharati Sahu (41). He was nabbed from a nearby village. “We have started the process of getting his previous bail cancelled as he has committed a violent crime during the bail period,” Cuttack deputy commissioner of police Kanwar Vishal Singh said.
Sources said that he allegedly insisted on marrying the victim’s daughter and created nuisance after being released from jail recently. Munna also had a quarrel with Bharati when she stopped him from meeting her daughter.
Around 9 pm on Monday, the accused knocked on Bharati’s house in an inebriated condition and tried to barge inside. When she resisted, he stabbed her multiple times in her stomach and neck and fled. A critically-injured Bharati was rushed to the nearest hospital where she was declared dead.
The knife used in the crime has also been seized, the sources added.
