Sputnik V Phase III Trials Complete In India

Hyderabad: Pharma major Dr Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd completed the phase-3 trials of Russia’s COVID-19 vaccine – Sputnik V.

“We have completed the dosing for Phase-3,” a spokesperson of Dr Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd told BusinessLine. It was conducted with around 1,500 subjects and the results of the trial are expected to be out in early April.

The vaccine has been applied for emergency use in India but the government has sought phase-3 trial results. If approved, it will be the 3rd COVID-19 vaccine in India, after Covishield and Covaxin.

Dr. Reddy’s signed up with Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) to conduct clinical trials of the vaccine and distribute it here, back in September 2020.

The vaccine has been developed by the Gamaleya National Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology. It was the world’s first registered vaccine against COVID-19.

The company claims an efficacy of 91.6 per cent and has been authorised in 26 countries along with 2 million people.
