Paradip: With the State Forensic Laboratory having failed to elicit any data from the tiny camera and microchip tagged to the leg of the ‘spy pigeon’, which was caught from a fishing boat off the Paradip Coast in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district, the bird will now be sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) either in Kolkata or Hyderabad.
Jagatsinghpur SP Rahul PR told mediapersons on Friday that the pigeon will be sent to the CFSL. “The texts written on the wings of the pigeon and seized devices will be examined at the CFSL,” he added.
On Thursday, Paradip Marine Police had shifted the bird to the Pigeon and Dog Squad of the state police in Cuttack city. The camera and the microchip were also sent to the State Forensic Laboratory in Bhubaneswar to confirm if it was meant for spying and its origin.
Experts of the pigeon and dog squad were to examine the bird to ascertain whether it was trained for spying and its nativity.
Notably, the pigeon had perched on a fishing boat in the mid-sea off the Konark coast in Puri district about 10 days ago and was handed over to the Paradip Marine Police on Wednesday. Some messages were scribbled in a foreign language on its wings.
