Kochi: Controversy has been the middle name of former Team India pacer S Sreesanth.
Accused and arrested in the 2013 IPL spot-fixing case, slapped a life ban by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), warned multiple times for indiscipline on and off the field, Sreesanth is again in the news.
Now, a case of cheating has been filed against the 2007 T20 World Cup-winning cricketer.
The 40-year-old Sreesanth has been accused of cheating an individual by taking money from him on the promise of making him a partner in a sports academy.
Kannur’s Sareegh Balagopalan, who filed the complaint, stated that Udupi natives Rajiv Kumar and K Venkatesh Kinni took Rs 18.70 lakh from him on the promise that they will construct a building at a resort owned in Karnataka’s Kollur.
Balagopalan was also promised that he will be made a partner in a sports academy to be started by Sreesanth and the Udupi duo.
The petition further stated that Sreesanth and the two others neither constructed the sports academy nor returned the money.
A case has been registered under IPC section 420 for cheating and dishonestly inducing the delivery of property.
The Kannur Judicial First Class Magistrate Court has ordered an investigation into the allegations.
