Cuttack: Panic gripped Godi Sahi area under Barang police limits in Odisha’s Cuttack district when an employee of Sri Sri University was shot dead by two unidentified miscreants on Sunday morning.
The victim was identified as Sunil Ranjan Sahu, a native of Rairakhol in Sambalpur district. He worked as a supervisor at the varsity.
With bullet wounds on his head, chest and right hand, he was rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
According to sources, Sahu had gone to Netala Chhak at Godi Sahi in the morning when two motorcycle-borne miscreants opened three rounds of fire on him and fled the area.
Following the incident, locals informed Barang police which rushed to the spot and took him to the SCB.
Cuttack DCP Akhileshwar Singh that the incident took place between 10 am and 10.30 am. The attackers were known to the victim, he said.
While the exact reason behind the attack was not immediately known, police, however, had begun investigation into the matter. Efforts are on to nab the culprits.
The entry and exit points to the district have been blocked and vehicles are being frisked, the DCP added.
