Bhubaneswar: Social security and empowerment of persons with disability
(SSEPD) minister Prafulla Samal inaugurated a film festival on
disability awareness at Idcol auditorium and a sports and cultural
meet titled ‘Utsav-2017’ at Kishore Club Ground, Unit 1, here on Friday
on the occasion of World Disabled Day.
The minister said, “The community must create a friendly environment for the persons with disabilities so that they can lead a dignified life.”
Over 500 persons with disabilities (PwDs) from different institutions
and public attended the film festival on the inaugural day.
During the two-day film festival, visitors will enjoy films like ‘See
My Ability’, ‘I Am Like You’, ‘Thakaan Se Agee’, ‘Puspak’, ‘Dignity’, ‘Life With
Dignity’ and ‘I Am Abled’. The entry is free for everyone.
According to the organisers, through the film festival and
Utsav 2017 they want to give the message that it was important to integrate disabled persons in the mainstream of society. Disabled persons are often discriminated against and that is never an ideal condition. Society must take adequate steps to involve
persons with disabilities in the main stream of each aspect of the
social, political, economic and cultural status of their communities.
The event was managed by WE4YOU, an NGO.
