Mumbai: The special NDPS Court has extended the judicial custody of actress Rhea Chakraborty, the prime accused in Sushant Singh Rajput death case, and her brother Showik till October 20.
Rhea and Showik’s judicial custodies were to end on October 6, but now they will have have to spend 14 days more in jail.
According to a report in Times Now, the accused brother-sister duo had approached the Bombay High Court for bail. Reportedly, the court had reserved its order in the last hearing and the next hearing in the case is expected tomorrow.
After the AIIMS panel investigating Sushant’s forensic reports recently declared that the actor died by suicide, several Bollywood celebrities took to social media to demand Rhea’s release.
“That girl has been in Jail for a month. Seriously guys!!!”, tweeted filmmaker Anubhav Sinha.
Replying to Anubhav’s tweet, actress Swara Bhasker wrote, “RELEASE #RHEACHAKRABORTY.”
Earlier, Kanika Dhillon had posted, “While d conspiracy theories r being mulled over- A young woman is still in Jail #rheachakroborty @Tweet2Rhea CBI has clearly stated no foul play… how long n under what charges can she be kept in jail- And denied bail?? @NCWIndia can anyone give some answers pls?!”
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) had arrested Rhea Chakraborty on September 9 for her involvement in the drug nexus case in connection to Sushant’s death.
The investigating agency had also arrested Rhea’s brother Showik and Sushant’s staffers Samuel Miranda and Dipesh Sawant in connection with the drug nexus case.
