SSR Death: NBSA Directs Four News Channels To Air Apology For Insensitive Coverage

New Delhi: The News Broadcasting Standards Authority (NBSA) has ordered four news channels to comply with its directive to broadcast an apology for insensitive reporting and sensationalising the demise of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, LiveLaw reported.

Aaj Tak will have to air an apology on October 27 at 8 pm and pay a fine of Rs. 1 lakh for its report where it attributed three fake tweets to the late actor and claimed he later deleted them on June 14, 2020. The channel had later removed the article.

Zee News has also been asked to broadcast an apology on October 27 for sensationalising  the Dil Bechara actor’s death by using “insensitive taglines”. While India TV was found to be in “egregious violation” of the NBSA guidelines too for describing marks on the actor’s neck, his lip colour and showing his shrouded body being taken out of his apartment.

News24 has been directed to air public apology on October 29 for sensational coverage that was “offensive and affect the dignity of the deceased”. Meanwhile, ABP News will remove objectionable videos of coverage of the actor’s death, LiveLaw report reported.
