Raipur: A 33-year-old man allegedly killed five of a family including a woman who had rejected his marriage proposal years ago and her five-year-old son, and then died by suicide in Chhattisgarh on Saturday.
The deceased have been identified as Hemlal Sahu (55), his wife Jagmoti Sahu (50), their daughters Meera Sahu (30) and Mamta Sahu (35), their grandson Ayush (5) and the jilted lover Manoj Sahu.
The incident took place in Thargaon village under Saliha police limits of Sarangarh-Bilaigarh district.
According to police sources, the man Manoj who was unmarried and worked as a tailor, scaled the boundary wall of the Sahu residence while everyone was asleep and killed them all with an axe before hanging himself in the same house.
The matter came to light when a neighbour received a call from a relative asking to check on the family as the calls were going unanswered.
Meera, who had rejected Manoj’s proposal years back, stayed in Raipur, and was visiting her parents’ house with her son at the time of the incident. She had filed a FIR in 2017 against Manoj for assaulting her and her sister, which was hindering Manoj’s marriage prospects, sources said.
“In 2017, Meera had filed a complaint against Manoj for trespassing and assault and an FIR was lodged. The trial in the case is underway,” Indian Express reported quoting Superintendent of Police Pushkar Sharma.
