Bhubaneswar: A stall to sell the handmade products of women prisoners was inaugurated by Director General (Prisons) SK Upadhyay at Jharpada Special Jail in the city on Friday.
The pure handmade products like turmeric powder, wheat flour, gram flour and puffed rice at less price than the market price will be available at the stall, said the jail authority. The wheat flour will cost Rs 30 per kg, while gram flour has been priced at Rs 80 per kg and turmeric powder Rs 120 per kg. A packet of puffed rice will be available at Rs 10.
Cleanliness and sanitization are strictly enforced during the production of these items by the women jail inmates. The stall will remain opened during the office time.
“The plan of jail authority to make the women inmates of the jail self-dependent and change their mindsets in a positive way has become successful. When they will go out of the jail, they can join the mainstream easily,” said Upadhyay.
Besides, the jail authorities have made provision to screen movies for the inmates on Saturday and Sunday every week. The government has provided a projector and audio system to watch and listen to the devotional movies and songs also.
