Bhubaneswar: StarGSM Cellular India Pvt Ltd, a maker of mobile phones and accessories headquartered in Jaipur, has evinced interest in setting up a mobile manufacturing unit here.
The company is a subsidiary of StarGSM, a Hong-Kong based manufacturer that supplies phones and accessories in Asia Pacific, Europe and Latin America.
It is interested to build the manufacturing and assembling unit at the EMC (electronics manufacturing cluster) proposed at Info Valley, Bhubaneswar.
The company is expected to make chargers and power banks apart from phones.
Apart from StarGSM, Kolkata-based Rashmi Group is also interested in setting up a mobile manufacturing unit at the cluster coming up over 203 acre on the outskirts of the city at an estimated cost of Rs 2.05 billion, of which the Centre will contribute Rs 9.5 million.
The EMC is expected to attract an investment of Rs 10 billion and employ 10000-12000 people, according to India Electronics and Semiconductor Association.
