State-Wide Student Police Cadet Scheme Launched In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The Student Police Cadet (SPC) Scheme was launched on Thursday in the Odisha capital.

Development Commissioner-cum-ACS Home Department, Asit Kumar Tripathy officially inaugurated this state-wide programme from the Capital High School premises, Bhubaneswar in the presence of senior officers of the state police, teachers, students and newly scouted cadets. Tripathy said that the SPC scheme would help in injecting discipline, social behaviour and many more good habits among the students who join the scheme.
DGP Dr R.P. Sharma graced the programme as the chief guest. He lauded the co-operation of the Capital High School authorities for organising such a good programme in the school.

The SPC scheme will help the students better appreciate the role, constraints and arduous nature of police work in addition to educating them about discipline and a sense of responsibility, said Dr Sharma.

It will also help in teaching them about team spirit, increased respect for law, gender equality and maintenance of a safe environment, he added. Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty was the guest of honour and spoke in detail about the SPC scheme and its functioning.
Headmistress of Capital High School Sonamika Roy also spoke on the occasion.

The SPC scheme is a two year programme meant for students of Class VIII and IX. It can have 44 students in each school including 50 per cent girl students.

The Department of School and Mass Education has identified 40 Central as well as State run schools for the implementation of the scheme. Out of these, 33 are state run schools and seven are Central schools. The same scheme can be extended to other schools in the state in a phased manner in future as per the decision of the state government.
