Berhampur: At least six women including step-mother were detained for allegedly branding a minor girl with hot iron rod.
The victim has been admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for treatment.
The incident took place on March 11 at Kumbharapali village under Ankuli panchayat in the district after the girl’s step-mother along with some other women branded her with a red hot iron for arriving late at house from her tailoring class.
In a bid to punish the girl, the women tied her hands and legs and branded different parts of her body.
Receiving information from locals, Childline officials and police personnel reached the village and rescued the minor girl.
Stringent action will be initiated against those involved in the inhuman act, Additional SP Santanu Kumar Das informed.
