Berhampur: Police have returned the stolen gold and silver ornaments worth more than Rs 85 lakh to the rightful owners in Berhampur of Odisha’s Ganjam district.
The stolen gold jewellery weighing 1.3 kg and silver ornaments of 400 gram were handed over to the owners at a program organised in the office of Berhampur SP.
The ornaments were stolen in different areas of Berhampur city including Golanthara, Berhampur Sadar, Baidyanathpur, Bada Bazar and Nimakhandi during October.
A series of burglary cases were detected by Berhampur district police during investigation of a case filed at Nimakhandi. The police detected involvement of a team of inter-state burglars and property receivers.
Main accused Sania Gouda of Berhampur and three receivers were arrested and the stolen items seized from them, said Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M. The accused persons were involved in 16 burglary cases.
Total 13 rightful owners were handed over their stolen gold and silver gold ornaments in the programme.
