New Delhi: Bollywood veteran Suniel Shetty has urged Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath to help stop the #BoycottBollywood trend and advised him to speak to PM Narendra Modi on the matter.
Stressing that such a trend is not good for Bollywood, Suniel told Yogi: “Please stop #BoycottBollywood. You can stop it. Trends on Twitter can be stopped. I’m sad about the perception made about people of UP. We are not only about crime or drugs, but it’s us who make India proud in world with our music and art. If you speak to Prime Minister then it will be helpful.”
“Don’t target actors. Lakhs of people get affected because of such trends. Boycotting is not a solution. Films are affected already, let’s not harm everyone. We all need to come together. We are already competing internationally, so we should not fight within,” pointed out Suniel.
There has been an alarming rise in #BoycottBollywood trend, the most recent example being Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone’s upcoming movie ‘Pathaan’.
Some BJP ministers, political leaders and Hindu organisations took offence to Deepika wearing a saffron outfit in the song ‘Besharam Rang’ and also objected to some ‘objectionable’ scenes after the song track was released last month. That led to a chorus of protests on social media, with thousands of Twitter users calling for a ban on the film.
Some of the other big-ticket movies which have faced the brunt in recent times are Aamir Khan-Kareena Kappor’s ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’, Akshay Kumar’s ‘Raksha Bandhan’ and Ranbir Kapoor-Alia Bhatt starrer ‘Brahmastra’.
