Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police has directed the authorities of all English medium schools to stop selling books inside the school premises.
In a letter to all district Superintendents of Police (SPs), Director General of Police (DGP) Abhay has asked them to ensure that under no circumstances do the English medium school authorities sell books inside the school premises. He directed them to take immediate action if any such incident comes to their notice.
Informing this to the media here on Saturday, members of the Odisha Abhibhabak Mahasangh said they had taken up the matter with the DGP recently.
“We had told the DGP that English medium school authorities are selling the textbooks published by private publishing houses at a high price to the students in gross violation of the Central guidelines and requested his intervention in this matter,” co-chairman of the Mahasangh, Dilip Bisoi told mediapersons here.
Asked about the directive of the state police, School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash said that the state government will strictly adhere to the directive of the HRD Ministry that English medium schools cannot indulge in any commercial activities inside the school premises.
