Sambalpur: A Plus II Science student of GM College here was found hanging in the backyard of his house at Dhipapada village under Burla police limits in Odisha’s Sambalpur district.
According to sources, the deceased, identified as Rohan Kumar Guru, was depressed after checking his results which were published on Wednesday, online and allegedly committed suicide later in the evening because of the poor marks.
The 18-year-old had scored over 90 per cent marks in matric examination, but his score dropped below 60 per cent in the Plus II Board exam. On finding him hanging from an iron rod in the backyard of the house, his family rushed him to the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla, in critical condition. But doctors there declared him dead. Later, his body was sent for postmortem.
Police said the exact cause behind the incident will be ascertained after the probe.
The Council for Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) Odisha has declared the results of the Science and Commerce streams. In Commerce, 273 students have secured more than 90 per cent this year. Boudh district recorded the highest pass percentage at 100% while Deogarh region recorded the lowest pass percentage at 61.53%. Similarly, 1124 students secured more than 90% marks in the Plus II Science stream. While 50157 students secured the first division, 14932 got the second division and 6910 students placed in the third division.
