Striking Lawyers Burn Effigy Of Odisha CM

Bhubaneswar: Protesting against the gross inaction of the Odisha government with regard to police excesses, the lawyers of all district bar associations in the state on Wednesday burnt the effigy of the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
A decision in this regard was taken by the Orissa High Court Bar Association at its general body meeting on Tuesday.
Talking to mediapersons after the meeting, president of the Association, Srikant Nayak had said that a meeting of the office-bearers of all bar associations in the state would be convened here on November 1 to decide the future course of action.
He also informed that the High Court Bar was most likely to initiate action against the chairman of the State Bar Council Tahali Charan Nayak, convener of the BJD Legal Front Milan Kanungo, adviser Asim Amitabh Das and former vice-president of the Orissa High Court Bar Association Bansidhar Satpathy.
Following the scuffle between the members of the BJD Legal Front and the Orissa High Court Bar Association, the High Court on Tuesday had intervened in the matter and directed the IG, Crime Branch, to complete the investigation into the alleged police assault on a lawyer, which took place on August 28, by November 9.
The court in its order said that the sitting judge of the High Court Justice C R Das would monitor the case and the Investigating Officer apprise him of the status of the probe every day.
