Baripada: A student reportedly attempted to commit suicide by consuming poison due to poor results in the Matriculation examinations in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.
According to sources, the student, who belongs to Purunapani village under Betanoti block of the district, was staying with his maternal uncle in Angaragadia village and studying in Class X of Dinabandhu High School.
The minor boy had returned to his village after appearing at the Matriculation examinations. As a good student, he was expecting good rank in the examination.
But he secured B Grade by scoring 242 marks in the Matriculation examinations whose results were announced by the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) Odisha on Sunday.
Frustrated by the poor results, he consumed pesticide kept in the house for farm works while his family members were not present. Soon after, he started vomiting and lost consciousness.
His family rushed him to a hospital at Baisinga. Later, he was shifted to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Balasore as his condition deteriorated. However, he recovered after treatment in the hospital and his condition was stable, hospital sources said.
